4 New Georgian Wines Receive 90+ Points in Wine Enthusiast

Lukasi, Mildiani, Teliani Valley and Orgo Wines Lead the Way in August Wine Enthusiast

Four Georgian wines from four Georgian wine producers have been awarded 90+ points in the August issue of the prestigious Wine Enthusiast. Wines from Orgo, Teliani Valley, Lukasi and Mildiani wineries all received scores of 90+ points and many others received “Best Buy Awards” Honored in this month with 91 points was new comer to the US market Lukasi Saperavi 2014, an woman-owned urban winery that specializes in saperavi.  Mike Desimone writes:

This wine offers aromas of black plum and smoke. Flavors of black cherry, bacon and oregano are joined by a vein of cranberry just prior to the long finish. While the tannins feel a bit grippy at first sip, a sense of brightness prevails across the entire palate.’

Georgian wine has been growing in popularity in the US with great effort on consumer relations from importers and campaigns from the National Wine Agency of Georgia. With this year’s ratings it brings the total of 20 wines in our portfolio to receive 90+ points. A growing interest in qvevri wine has spurred on international recognition and the categorization of the ancient and unique style from Georgia.

Teliani Valley Kindzmarauli 2016 – 91 Points Wine Enthusiast

Also honored in this month’s issue is the 2016 Teliani Valley Kindzmarauli Saperavi, which received 91 points for its juicy semi-sweet version of Saperavi. Mike Desimone writes: “With a nose of blackberry, apple peel and baking spices, this red-violet colored wine offers flavors of ripe black cherry, blueberry, mocha and cinnamon. A smooth tannic structure provides a backdrop for ripe fruit and spice flavors that coalesce in a long, pleasant finish. This is a very good example of a semisweet Saperavi that can be served alongside cheese or with dessert.”

Orgo Mtsvane 2016 – 90 Points Wine Enthusiast

The Orgo Mtsvane 2016 received 90 Points for its amber style wine sourced from old vines and made in qvevri. Mike Desimone writes: “Six months of skin-contact aging in terra cotta qvevri impart an amber color to this wine. Aromas of nectarine and orange zest lead the way on the nose, with slightly sour yet pleasing flavors of apple, peach, kiwi, white chocolate and butterscotch carrying the palate. Gritty tannins coat the mouth and then drop off, leading to a smooth finish.

2 Georgian Reds Honored with “Best Buy”

Lastly Wine Enthusiast acknowledge what they consider “Best Buys” in a category. These are wines that exhibit exceptional quality for the price. They honored both the Schuchmann Wines Saperavi 2016 and the Teliani Valley Saperavi 2017 rating them 89 and 88 points respectively.
