Blake Gray: “Teliani Valley Saperavi…holy crap, that’s a lot of interesting wine for $10.99”

W. Blake Gray of “The Gray Report” recently wrote an interesting blog post on Georgian wine and his experience at the San Fransisco Georgian Wine tasting sponsored by Georgia’s National Wine Agency.

In his blog post Gray makes a few errors on political aspects of the US and Georgian relationship but his writing on wines is spot on. He writes of his overall experience at the tasting this way:

I did really like several wines (scores over 90 points, for those keeping score), and they aren’t your grandma’s cougar juice. These are true curiosities, yet they are available on the U.S. market, and they’re surprisingly cheap.

Gray was particularly enthralled with two Georgian Wine House wines in particular he recommends the Teliani Valley Saperavi  writing:

This is an iron-rich, meaty, dark red fruit wine that would be wonderful with steak tartare. 13% alcohol. And holy crap, that’s a lot of interesting wine for $10.99

Gray also highly recommended Schuchmann Rkatsiteli writing:

This full-flavored wine opens with apple and apricot, then finishes with intense minerality. 12.5% alcohol

Thanks to W. Blake Gray who has been recognized as one of the best wine bloggers for helping spread the word of Georgia wine in the US. You can read his full post here.
