Vineyards

At Château Mukhrani everything starts in our Estate vineyards. Every parcel, every raw is looked after closely. We have a strict plantation policy whereas the density of wines never exceeds 2,700 vine stocks per hectare. Thus, our grapes fully benefit from our fertile soil, from the sun exposure to get the perfect growth conditions.

Today, the Company owns 100 hectares of vineyards planted with local endemic and international varieties and the Winery which is furnished with modern winemaking equipment. The vineyards occupy 23 parcels of land, amounting to 100 hectares adjacent the Château itself. Here vines have been cultivated for centuries. Famous Mukhrani vineyards receiving rays of a moderate sun have been planted with different varietals such as:

Reds -  Saperavi, Shavkapito, Tavkveri.

Whites – Goruli Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli

The specific geological and climatic features of this ancient soil coupled with a skillful and patient selection of the varietals, offer a unique combination for creating wines of exceptional taste.

An Exceptional Terroir

Mukhrani (“decorated with oak trees“) is one of the most beautiful Georgian villages, set in one of the most attractive places in the East of Georgia, on the strip of  low-land between the Caucasus and Trialeti mountain ranges in the basin of Ksani and Aragvi rivers, 35 km from Tbilisi. The vineyards of the Château are located on the best selected plots of this exquisite soil. The land with its wavy surface, slopes slightly.

Geologically the parcels of land are made up of layers of alluvial and diluvial loamy strata. With regard to temperature, Mukhrani is characterized by medium to hot summers and by a long active growing period. The total of active temperature yearly is in the range of 3600 ºC, while the average annual temperature is 10,8 ºC. The annual amount of rainfall in Mukhrani is 660 mm of which 430 mm during the period of growth. This harmony of nature, tradition and man gives a strong structure to the Mukhrani wine.

The Style of Mukhrani Wines

Like a great creator, and as incomparable and different, Mukhrani composes its masterpieces to which soil, climate and vines give their incomparable style. Young Mukhrani wines are already wonderful for their robust structure and the intensity of rich fruits, yet they continue to evolve constantly.

Patrick Honnef is looking after the Viticulture and Winemaking processes of Château Mukhrani. With experience in the classified growth area of Bordeaux, our winemaker identifies the grape quality from different climate conditions and selects the most suitable processing methods to grow the highest quality of grapes.

“Each step of the process has its own strict rules. We check and follow our wine quality from the roots of our vines to the glass of our customers.”

The Château Mukhrani vintages indicate an ancestral heritage that reflects the combined values of heart and soul. By a strict, selective grape selection and the use of well-tested traditional vinification methods, our wines are patiently elaborated to a final taste profile, revealing their uniqueness. Twelve to eighteen months maturation in oak casks gives our Château Mukhrani wines an extra harmony.
