Amber, Drink Different!

Skin-contact whites, or Amber wines, were created for the diversity of food that you see at a Thanksgiving table. These whites have the tannic structure of a red wine, but those perfect fall fruits from a white grape. It is a different style for Americans but Thanksgiving is the perfect time to fall in love with amber wine. Check out the Vinoterra Rkatsiteli 2014 for your table. It is a natural wine made in large clay-jars buried under the ground in the same way Georgians have been doing for 8,000 years. A definite conversation starter!

Hello Saperavi!

Put the Cab and Pinot aside and grab a bottle of Georgia’s fabulous indigenous varietal Saperavi. Saperavi literally means, “dye” and is called “Black Wine” in Georgia. If you want elegance and freshness we recommend you try the Orgo Saperavi 2014. All hand-made by a father and son in traditional methods. This wine is living history. Orgo was founded to preserve older vines and traditions so all the juice comes from 80 year old vines. Orgo Saperavi is a labor of love that is different but has exceptional finesse. A real treat for Thanksgiving.

Available at Batch 13,  Rodmans, Potomac Wine and Spirits, Wardman Wines, Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits

Don’t Forget Dessert!

Georgia is a master at semi-sweet wines and Thanksgiving is a time of savory and sweet. Check out this 90 Point stunner semi-sweet red: Teliani Valley Kindzmarauli Saperavi. Sweet but not too sweet, this balanced wine can go with the savory because of its tannic structure but has just enough sweetness to go with dessert. Give it a try.

Available at Batch 13, Whole Foods P St, Whole Foods Tenleytown, Whole Foods Georgetown, Whole Foods Tysons Corner, Rodmans, Potomac Wine and Spirits, Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits
