Patrick Honnef, Winemaker, Viticulturist, CEO of Château Mukhrani, graduated from Wine Management and Winemaking in Heilbronn, Germany. He took his 11 years of experiences in the Bordeaux region, worked as a Technical Director of Chateau d’Aiguilhe for 10 years and was supported by the remarkable wine-consultant Stephane Derenencourt.

The powerful Merlot dominated reds of Chateau d’Aiguilhe were regularly noted between 88-92 points, top-scores for a not classified cru of Bordeaux. End of 2013 the challenge to become technical director of Chateau Mukhrani in the Caucasian Republic of Georgia crossed my way. The huge potential and history of the “Cradle of Wine” is a dream for each passionate in wine.

Today this country is embracing its renaissance of wine culture, combining ancient amphora winemaking (known as Qvevris) and modern international techniques. Be part of this process, rediscover the autochthone grape varieties and reveal their great potential is marvelous.

  • Chateau Mukhrani is situated in the historic Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of western Georgia, 50 kilometers northwest from the capital of Tbilisi in the valley of the flowing Ksani and Argavi Rivers. The region’s unique climate offers high levels of rainfall and a long active growing period for several rare local grape varieties.

At Château Mukhrani everything starts in our Estate vineyards. Every parcel, every raw is looked after closely. We have a strict plantation policy whereas the density of wines never exceeds 2,700 vine stocks per hectare. Thus, our grapes fully benefit from our fertile soil, from the sun exposure to get the perfect growth conditions.

Today, the Company owns 100 hectares of vineyards planted with local endemic and international varieties and the Winery which is furnished with modern winemaking equipment. The vineyards occupy 23 parcels of land, amounting to 100 hectares adjacent the Château itself. Here vines have been cultivated for centuries. Famous Mukhrani vineyards receiving rays of a moderate sun have been planted with different varietals such as:

    Reds - Saperavi, Shavkapito, Tavkveri.

    Whites – Goruli Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli

Planted vine varieties: Kakhetian Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli, Saperavi
