Imbibe Magazine Features Georgian Wines and Orgo Rkatsiteli

In Imbibe Magazines 2015 Winter issue be sure to check out the article “East goes West” where author Jennifer Fiedler writes about how wines from Central and Eastern Europe are gaining popularity in the US. In her article she highlights Georgian wines and in particular Georgian Qvevri Wines writing:

Archeological findings date production of wine in Georgia and the Caucasus region to 6000 B.C., but because Georgia was slower to shake off political unrest after the fall of Communism, the modern wine culture first lagged behind that of other countries. Today, however, it’s finally coming into its own. Natural-wine aficionados have championed selections made with minimal intervention in traditional qvevri (terracotta clay pots), which are sealed and buried in the ground for temperature stabilization. Important producers include American painter John Wurdeman, who began making wine under the Pheasant’s Tears label in 2007, and Orgo, made by a fourth-generation Georgian winemaker.

In her article she interviews many top sommeliers and restaurant owners who are in love with the Georgian and Eastern European wines for their unique varietals, wine making styles and history.
