About the Vineyards

The Kereselidze vineyards are cultivated in the Kvanchkara micro-zone, on the right-side slope of the river Rioni, on clay soil, which is the main factor of the high quality of our grape varieties. Our vines are 40 years old planted by Apolon’s parents Petre and Nanuli Kereselidze. Sorts of white grapes - Rachuli (Tsulukidze’s) Tetra and Rachuli Mtsvane is rare in Racha Region. The cause is due to the high market price for red grape varieties – Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli, so growers preferred to plant these varieties. These rare white grape varieties were preserved by the family, because of their passion for keeping alive ancient varieties and traditions; they were unwilling to replant simply for the sake of making more money. Their vineyard of Rachuli (Tsulukidze’s) Tetra, Rachuli Mtsvane and Tsolikouri is 0.3 ha. Typical harvest time for Rachuli (Tsulukidze’s) Tetra is in the beginning of October and for Rachuli Mtsvane it is in the end of October. Both grapes were fermented in Khorgo for 14 days and in January they are blended together.
